Why a Venturi Nozzle?
A venturi nozzle has a shaped internal passage that accelerates and expands the abrasive/air stream as it moves through the nozzle.
Compared with a conventional straight-bore nozzle, a venturi design can provide a broader, more efficient blast pattern and is particularly useful when cleaning or preparing larger surface areas.
Why Boron Carbide?
Boron carbide is an extremely hard, wear-resistant material and is an excellent choice for blast nozzles exposed to continuous abrasive flow.
Its long potential service life makes it particularly useful for:
- Production blast cabinets
- Frequent or continuous blasting
- Aggressive abrasive media
- Industrial surface preparation
- Applications where reducing nozzle replacement frequency is important
Actual nozzle life will vary depending on the abrasive, operating pressure, media size, and blasting conditions.
How a Suction Blast Gun Works
Compressed air passes through the 3/16" air jet, creating a low-pressure area inside the gun that draws abrasive media through the media hose.
The abrasive mixes with the compressed-air stream and is then accelerated through the 3/8" boron carbide venturi nozzle toward the work surface.
Correct matching of the air jet, nozzle, compressor capacity, and abrasive supply is important for good media pickup and efficient blasting.
Air Consumption / Compressor Requirements

Compressor Sizing Reference
The F113-028 uses a 3/8" nozzle with a 3/16" air jet. Your compressor must provide sufficient air volume at the desired operating pressure for proper abrasive pickup and blasting performance.
The accompanying siphon-blast CFM chart is provided as a general compressor-sizing reference. Actual air consumption can vary with blast-gun and nozzle configuration, operating pressure, air supply, and system condition.
Do not size a compressor solely from the reference chart without confirming the requirements of your specific blasting system.
Applications:
- Suction-feed blast cabinets
- Production abrasive blasting
- Surface preparation
- Paint and coating removal
- Rust and corrosion removal
- Cleaning fabricated and machined components
- Equipment restoration
- Industrial maintenance
- General abrasive blasting
Checking Nozzle Wear
Even a boron carbide nozzle will eventually wear as abrasive passes through it.
Periodically inspect and measure the nozzle bore. Excessive nozzle wear can result in:
- Increased compressed-air demand
- Changes in blast pattern
- Reduced blasting efficiency
- Increased abrasive consumption
- Reduced abrasive velocity
- Difficulty maintaining operating pressure
A worn nozzle can consume considerably more compressed air than its original bore size would suggest.
Finding Parts for Older Universal / Uniblast Equipment
Universal Equipment Manufacturing and Uniblast Technologies equipment has been used in industrial blasting applications for many years, and parts for older machines can sometimes be difficult to identify.
That's why we include the original manufacturer part number and complete gun configuration whenever possible.
For this assembly, the key identification information is:
Universal / Uniblast F113-028 – 3/8" Boron Carbide Venturi Nozzle with 3/16" Air Jet
Important:
This listing is for one Universal Equipment Manufacturing / Uniblast Technologies F113-028 complete blast gun assembly with 3/8" boron carbide venturi nozzle and 3/16" air jet.
Always verify the F113-028 part number, nozzle size, nozzle type, and air-jet size required for your equipment before ordering.
Completely shut off and relieve compressed-air pressure before installing, removing, or servicing any blast gun, nozzle, hose, or related blasting component. Never operate abrasive blasting equipment with damaged or improperly secured components.
