What the Piston Rod Does

The piston rod continuously travels through the pump packings as the displacement pump cycles. The rod and packings work together to create the seal necessary for the pump to develop the high fluid pressures required for airless spraying.

Because the packings ride directly against the piston rod, the condition of the rod's working surface is extremely important.

Normal use, abrasive coatings, contamination, dried material, corrosion, or operating the pump with worn packings can eventually cause the piston rod to become scored, grooved, pitted, or worn.
