What a Straight-Bore Nozzle Does
A short straight-bore nozzle produces a concentrated blast stream rather than the wider pattern typically associated with a long venturi nozzle.
This makes the design useful for close-range cleaning, concentrated surface preparation, machinery components, confined areas, and applications where the operator wants the blast energy focused into a relatively small area.
With its large 3/8" bore, however, this nozzle moves considerably more air and abrasive than the smaller 1/8", 3/16", or 1/4" versions.
Why Choose a 3/8" Bore?
A 3/8" blast nozzle is a high-air-demand nozzle intended for systems with substantial compressor capacity.
The larger bore allows greater airflow and abrasive throughput, which can provide aggressive cleaning performance when the blasting system and compressor are properly sized.
Before choosing this nozzle, make sure your compressor can maintain the required CFM at your desired blasting pressure. Simply having adequate compressor PSI isn't enough—the compressor must also have sufficient air volume.
Why Tungsten Carbide?
Abrasive media traveling through a blast nozzle at high velocity continuously wears the internal bore.
Tungsten carbide offers excellent resistance to abrasive wear and generally provides a substantially longer service life than ceramic nozzles in regular commercial blasting applications.
Actual nozzle life will vary depending on:
- Abrasive type and hardness
- Abrasive size
- Operating pressure
- Moisture and contamination
- Hours of use
- Nozzle handling
Why Nozzle Bore Size Matters
Nozzle bore diameter has a major effect on compressed-air demand, abrasive consumption, cleaning rate, and overall blasting performance.
As bore diameter increases, the amount of compressed air required rises dramatically. This is especially important with a 3/8" nozzle.
If the compressor cannot supply enough CFM, pressure at the nozzle will fall and blasting performance can suffer even though the compressor itself is capable of producing the specified pressure.
Checking Nozzle Wear
Blast nozzles are wear items. As the tungsten carbide bore gradually enlarges, air and abrasive consumption increase.
Periodically inspect and measure the nozzle bore. Consider replacement when you notice:
- Significant increase in bore diameter
- Uneven internal wear
- Increased air consumption
- Reduced blasting efficiency
- Difficulty maintaining blasting pressure
- Irregular blast pattern
- Cracked or damaged outer jacket
- Damaged threads
A nozzle can still look perfectly good externally while its internal bore has worn well beyond its original 3/8" diameter.
Applications:
Suitable for:
- Abrasive blast cleaning
- Pressure blasting equipment
- Commercial sandblasting equipment
- Close-range surface preparation
- Concentrated rust and scale removal
- Paint and coating removal
- Machinery and component cleaning
- Industrial maintenance
- Professional abrasive blasting systems
Important:
This listing is for one aftermarket tungsten carbide sandblast nozzle that replaces Clemco Part #01355.
Specifications: 3/8" straight bore × 3/4" NPSM fine thread × 1-5/8" overall length × engineered plastic jacket.
This is an aftermarket component and is not manufactured by Clemco or the other manufacturers referenced above. Cross-reference numbers are provided to assist with part identification. Always verify the bore size, thread size, dimensions, and original part number before ordering.
A 3/8" nozzle requires substantial compressor capacity. Verify that your compressor can provide sufficient CFM at the desired blasting pressure before ordering.
Always completely depressurize the blasting system before removing, installing, or servicing a blast nozzle. Inspect the nozzle holder, washer, threads, blast hose, and safety restraints before returning the equipment to service.
